“When what you are deeply passionate about, what you can be best in the world at and what drives your economic engine come together, not only does your work move toward greatness, but so does your life. For, in the end, it is impossible to have a great life unless it is a meaningful life. And it is very difficult to have a meaningful life without meaningful work. Perhaps, then, you might gain that rare tranquility that comes from knowing that you’ve had a hand in creating something of intrinsic excellence that makes a contribution. Indeed, you might even gain that deepest of all satisfactions: knowing that your short time here on this earth has been well spent, and that it mattered.”

2011 Harley India line up

For the calendar year 2011, Harley Davidson India, is launching two new thumpers under the Sportster - 2011 Harley Sportster Super Low 883 and the 2011 Harley Sportster Iron 883.

Built on the same engine, chassis and suspension platforms, both the bikes would be available in CKD format in India and therefore the biggest USP would be their individual price tags.

Let's take a quick look at the specs (which is more of less same for both the bikes)

The 2011 Sportster Super Low 883

The 2011 Sportster Iron 883

Never have been a big fan of the Harley, but the price factor does play it's part. According to the Harley India website, the 2011 Sportster Super Low 883 bears a price tag of ₹5,50,000 and the 2011 Sportster Iron 883 would dent your pocket by ₹6,50,000.

Now that defies my logic. Two motorcycles with the same engine specs having a difference of ₹1 lacs amongst them. With the official site not mentioning anything about the peak performance output for both the models, that needs to be seen.

A detailed ride impression for the Super Low 883 can be found on the Motorcycle USA website.

Absolutely agree with your with the Kawasaki Vulcan 900 being a great option. But in all possibility the prices with that engine capacity would not be coming down more as both the above bikes are coming in CKD and there's some percentage of import duty that's being levied on such formats. It's only when HD starts fully manufacturing these machines to every nut bolt in India only, then we can expect some more price drops.

  4. oh no u r mistaken sajal.hd will not manufacture in india.just read a news in moto usa magzne.they will only assemle here.by doing so they will bring down duties to 10pc frm 60pc.thus its no difficulty for them to sell it at 3.7lacs considering the US model sells for 7999$.
on the other hand wat u get is a bare min off accesories as the bike has a good engine and very very poor suspension.in comparison wit kawa vulcan 900 u get a very nice suspension, good overall looks.its almost like buying a fatboy at the price of a sporster. so like the people in usa who preferred vulcan over hd in this entry level indians being smarter will abviously make the ryt decision.tnx

I'm not saying that HD would manufacture motorcycles here (if you read my post and my previous discussion with you I'm also saying it would be a CKD format ) :). I'm saying that the only way HD can bring down the price more for the Iron and the Super Low, further, is by starting to manufacture there locally in India. But yeah you do have a point about the suspension difference between the Vulcan and the HD.

But in a price driven society, where the next best cruiser (read the Suzuki Intruder) is available at 13.5 lacs, and with Vulcan not available in India, I guess the Iron and the Super Low would find their moolah at the current price too!!
