The Gixxer has got a sibling!
Gixxer SF |
Last year Suzuki Motorcycles India launched Gixxer, an all new 150cc motorcycle to take on various sport-commuters in the segment. A fantastic motorcycle, winning all major Motorcycle of the Year awards last year, the Gixxer has been quite a success since then, Suzuki’s best in years, proving that it’s not just another 150cc motorcycle.
Now almost an year down the line, Suzuki has launched a full faired variant of their successful Gixxer called the Gixxer SF. The SF is for Sports Fairing. Designed in the same wind tunnel, as claimed by the Japanese manufacturer, as the legendary Hayabusa, GSX-R and MotoGP machine, the Gixxer SF would provide excellent wind protection to the rider, reducing turbulence and drag, delivering better aerodynamic efficiency.
The SF is powered by the same 154.9cc engine as in the naked Gixxer producing the same 14.8PS or power @ 8000RPM and 14NM of torque @ 6000RPM. The seat height, wheelbase and ground clearance are also same at 780mm, 1330mm and 160mm respectively. What has changed in the SF is the weight, naturally, as it’s heavier by 4kgs at 139kgs which honestly is not much given the full fairing. Seems like Suzuki has done a decent job at keeping the weight in check. The SF, though, should behave better nearing its topend.
The fit and finish of various parts is very good and the overal build quality is quite satisfactory as well. Other than the full fairing, rest of the motorcycle is same as the naked Gixxer in looks; however, the exhaust in the SF has an aluminum cover to finish things off while slightly enhancing the aesthetic appeal.
Finished in aluminum |
It is an international trend especially in 250cc segments and above to provide a streetfighter (naked) and a full faired version of a motorcycle. The trend is slowly picking up in India as well and has been a success especially after the big guns started launching their higher capacity motorcycles here. Motorcycles like the Gixxer are meant to cater to the younger crowd or the ones who are looking for a sportier commuter 150cc motorcycle. A full faired version can only help in extending the market of such machines.
Suzuki motorcycles India is on a roll and given that the success of the Gixxer is still in progress, we believe that the Gixxer SF is launched at the right time. Priced at Rs 83,439 ex-showroom Delhi, we wish Suzuki all the success for the future, they deserve it.
We will be riding the Gixxer SF soon, so stay tuned for a detailed ride report.
