Benelli entered into a contract with DSK last October to assemble and distribute its motorcycles in India. The Italian bike maker will be introducing all its five bike models across all eight dealerships in the country.
DSK also assembles Hyosung bikes, however the dealerships for both the bikes will be different. The Benelli bikes will range from Rs 4.2 lakhs to Rs 15.5 lakhs (on-road prices). The deliveries of the Benelli bikes will commence by mid-March, a DSK Motowheels’ Chairman Shirish Kulkarni spokesperson told PTI (Press Trust of India).
The report also states that Benelli will be looking at getting all the five models from its range, the TNT 300, TNT 600i, TNT 600GT, TNT 899 and TNT 1130 bikes to India. The 300cc and the 600cc will be making its way to India by the CKD route from China, while the other two will be a complete body import form Italy. The bikes will be assembled in DSK’s Pune plant in Wai. The other two bigbikes will also be assembled at a a later stage to reduce the pricing.
The first eight cities to get the dealerships will be Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. The ninth city will be Chandigarh. The company is targeting under 20 dealerships for this year and by the end of 2016, the Italian bike company will have about 40 dealerships. The report also states that the Indian superbike market at the moment is about 10,000 annual units, and it is due to grow by 50% in this year. DSK is also selling six Hyosung bikes in India, through its network of 41 dealers.
