What you see here is the fully production ready model of the Himalayan, which looks to be a proper adventure bike with the design of a scrambler.
As you can see the bike gets some very meaty off-road tyres, a high front mud-guard, telescopic forks at the front with protection covers, a nice big windshield, raised handlebars and an upswept exhaust. Then there is a completely new swingarm design and the bike also gets a rear monoshock suspension.
With this design the bike looks to be highly capable for some hardcore off-roading, and it will obviously be aimed towards adventure riders who usually make their way up to Ladakh every year. The bike also borrows the fuel tank of the GT racer, and although we cannot make out, we have been told by the photographer that it features dual headlights, along with a new instrument cluster.
Royal Enfield has invested Rs 500 crores into new technology centres that will improve quality and add new products to their portfolio. Two new engines will also be produced, one is a 750cc twin-cylinder unit, and the other is a 410cc unit, which is what we can see is fitted on the Himalayan motorcycle. This 410cc overhead camshaft engine will probably have a power output of around 28bhp and will also have less noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) than the current RE engines.
The Himalayan motorcycle will most probably be launched towards the end of this year and will carry a price tag of around Rs 2.5 lakhs.
