Based on recent spyshots, IAB’s rendering artist, Shoeb R Kalania has worked on a new render of Royal Enfield’s next new product – the Royal Enfield Himalayan.
The new adventure tourer bike will share design cues with its brother, the Royal Enfield Continental GT, such as headlights, fuel tank, dual discs and instrument cluster. To compliment its adventuring spirit, it gets an air-deflecting windscreen, upswept exhaust, raised handlebars, and a high-mounted front mudguard.
It is based on a single tube chassis, and the rear features a newly designed subframe with brackets for saddle bags. Suspension duties are performed by the mono shock setup (first for an RE) at the back, and telescopic front fork gaiters that point to the extensive travel for better off-road capabilities.
Power is, reportedly, sourced from a single cylinder, 410 cc, oil-cooled, four-stroke motor making nearly 29 bhp and 40 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed unit. Also in the cards is a more-powerful 750 cc twin-cylinder engine.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan will setup a new segment when launched in late 2015 or early 2016, as there are no 400cc adventure tourer bikes available currently. The only adventure-centric offerings are the Pulsar AS twins in the 150-200 cc segment and the premium products from Triumph and Ducati in the 800 cc and above segment.
