With the growing surge high performance bikes in the country, leading motorcycle manufactureres are getting bold and bringing in high powered super bikes in Indian market. Recently, Honda launched the CBR650F in India priced at INR 7.6 lakh, now following the suite Yamaha is gearing up to bring in its middle weight champion to the race.
According to the recent interview of Yasuo Ishihara, President, Yamaha Motor Research & Development India with AutoCar Professional, the company is enter the middle weight touring sport segment in the Indian two wheeler market. This new bike will be direct rival to fellow Japanese motorcycle manufacture, Honda’s CBR650F.
However, Ishihara did not mention any specific model name for this motorcycle space, but the market experts believe that the bike could be fully faired-up version of FZ6R which is powered by a 600cc four cylinder engine.
Ishihara also commented that,” This is interrelated to the marketing strategy and manufacturing condition but personally I want to increase in the over-500cc segment. Honda has recently launched the CBR 650F (in India) and we want to catch up. If everybody in our company agrees, then we can introduce such a model very quickly as we have it in other countries. Initially, we can bring it as a CKD.”
Moreover, Ishihara neither did mention any specific time frame for the launch of Honda CBR650F rival motorcycle, as time schedule for the product is not finalized yet for the Indian market. He also mentioned that if things fall according to strategy, we could see this new Yamaha motorcycle on Indian roads by late 2016 or early 2017.
