“When what you are deeply passionate about, what you can be best in the world at and what drives your economic engine come together, not only does your work move toward greatness, but so does your life. For, in the end, it is impossible to have a great life unless it is a meaningful life. And it is very difficult to have a meaningful life without meaningful work. Perhaps, then, you might gain that rare tranquility that comes from knowing that you’ve had a hand in creating something of intrinsic excellence that makes a contribution. Indeed, you might even gain that deepest of all satisfactions: knowing that your short time here on this earth has been well spent, and that it mattered.”

BMW F 310 GS Adventure incoming

For those who wanted a smaller, more compact adventure bike, but can’t wait for a new KTM anymore, another three-letter company is set to deliver.

BMW Motorrad will introduce the F 310 GS Adventure in India in the fourth quarter of 2016 following the roll-out of the G 310 R in the coming months. The F 310 GS Adventure, ‘GS’ meaning ‘Gelandestrass’ basically translating to go anywhere road or mountain, uses the same 313-cc single cylinder four-valve DOHC, liquid-cooled engine that has been reworked and specifically tuned to produce 30 PS at 8,000 RPM with a peak 27.5 Nm coming in at a meatier 5,750 RPM and staying until 7,000 RPM. A flat torque curve that peaks earlier is better suited to off-road conditions and requires fewer gear changes, leaving the rider with more mental capacity to focus on the terrain and direction.
The motor is paired to a six-speed gearbox, with the sealed O-ring chain sending power to the fat rear wheel. The choice of mechanicals do not disappoint. The front suspension is a fat 41-mm USD fork with 140-mm travel. The rear monoshock is link-mounted and can travel 190-mm. The 19-inch front wheel is wrapped in a 90/90 rubber, with the rear being a 150/60 R17. Dual-purpose tyres are offered as standard.
Add the wide handlebars, stepped seat, 19-litre tank, and provisions for mounting luggage and the F 310 GS Adventure begins to make a lot of sense. Also, at present, apart from the Royal Enfield Himalayan, there are no nearly-affordable adventure bikes out there.
We hope to give you more details once we have a Bike India exclusive first ride story for you shortly.
