The announcement of BMW Motorrad’s association with TVS was a big news for the motorcycling industry. With the world looking forward to their first product, BMW took over everyone’s imagination with the gorgeous G310R. When the bike was showcased at the Auto Expo this year, I really had a tough time moving away from it to let other journos click pictures.
I expected it to be launched by now but I was wrong; BMW is still not ready with the product. The agonising wait continues, however, a recent on-road sighting of the bike in India has raised hopes. G310R was recently spied testing sans camouflage somewhere in South India (it appears). It was spotted by a member of a Facebook group Automotive Forum who created a video out of it. Here is a screengrab from the same…
Powering the bike is a 313 cc single cylinder liquid cooled mill which churns out 34 hpof peak power at 9,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 28 Nm at 7,500 rpm and it weighs 158.5 kg! The bike has been designed and developed by BMW Motorrad in Germany and will be manufactured by TVS in India.
BMW had, just before the Auto Expo, for the first time, officially confirmed that the new bike will be launched in India in the ‘coming months‘. A launch just before the festive season would just be a German gift for motorcyclists looking for an entry level sports motorcycle!
Apart from this, TVS’ version based out of the same platform will be a sports motorcycle based on the Akula 310 concept (from the Auto Expo) and the alliance is also set to work on motorcycles in the 500-600 cc displacement bracket.
